Kata 16-20

Kata 16-20 consist of Empi, Wankan, Meikyo, Sochin and Nijushio.

Meikyo

Meikyo means mirror of the soul, bright mirror or polished mirror and refers to performing the same combinations many times but in reverse.

The first series of techniques also symbolizes holding up a mirror and reflecting oneself inwardly. Meikyo, which only has one kiai, does not have many remarkable techniques, which means that it is not a common kata in tournaments. Meikyo is more popular among veterans who don't need to prove anything to others but only to themselves.
